What we call "The Lord´s Prayer" is a model prayer that Jesus used to teach his disciples how to pray. If you are new to prayer, a good place to start would be to use the Lord´s Prayer as a pattern. In fact, it´s still a good pattern for us older Christians to follow. (Matthew 6:7-13.)

"And it came to pass, that, as (Jesus) was praying in a certain place, when he ceased, one of his disciples said unto him, Lord, teach us to pray, as John also taught his disciples." Luke 11:1
