May 17, 2002, Newsletter Issue #47: Family Altar--Why, When How, Part 4 of 4

Tip of the Week

Your family is unique, and your family devotions will be unique. Start with a general pattern, then adjust as your children grow and your family changes. Some suggestions: 1. Read a portion of scripture; 2. Discuss what you have read; 3. Show children from the Bible reasons for family decisions; 4. Let those working on memory verses practice quoting them; 5. Have each member name something he is thankful for (excellent therapy for any bad attitudes, including your own); 6. Take prayer requests and praises; 7. Ask one person to close in prayer.

BONUS TIP: Not a Christian? Perhaps you realize the value of family devotions, but know you first need to be a Christian yourself before you can lead your family in the things of God.
