November 8, 2002, Newsletter Issue #72: *Rainy Day Kit* for Depression, Part 2

Tip of the Week

1.) A good Christian novel I have been saving for just such a time, something light and easy. I save complicated mysteries for my "up" times when I am ready for a mental challenge. Other reading materials I like include gardening magazines and books, catalogs and websites. Do you have an article you`ve been saving and haven`t had time to read? Prescribe it to yourself as therapy!

2.) A funny video can work wonders -- like an old Andy Griffith rerun or Abbott and Costello film. Laughter immediately changes the brain chemistry to help me get back to "normal" faster. :o)

3.) A moderately easy crossword puzzle stimulates my thinking but doesn`t overwhelm me. Maybe you like word searches or other brain-stimulators. The bottom line is to occupy your mind and push it back to something that will neither overwhelm you nor allow thoughts of depression to take over.

Verse of the week: "Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ…" 2 Cor. 10:5

More next week! Remember, God loves you and Jesus has experienced every emotion you could ever go through, including the very worst one of feeling abandoned by His own Heavenly Father.
